EQ2 Equitensiometer
The Equitensiometer type EQ2 provides a new technique for measuring soil water potential (soil matric potential). The EQ2 makes clever use of the latest generation of soil moisture sensor, the ThetaProbe, to derive accurate readings without the familiar problems of water- filled tensiometers.

The sensor consists of a ThetaProbe embedded into a specially formulated porous matric material. The water content of this material reaches equilibrium with the matric potential of the surrounding soil, and the absorbed water is detected by the ThetaProbe. The EQ2 is delivered pre-calibrated.

Being maintenance free, (i.e. no refilling, degassing or topping up required) and low power, the EQ2 can be conveniently used at remote sites. It is not harmed by frost, nor by long term burial. The EQ2 achieves best accuracy (±5% of reading) over the range-100 to –1000 kPa. This makes it well suited to plant water stress studies – even in very dry soils.

Specifications

Accuracy & Range
± 10 kPa over operation range.
± 5% of reading from –100 to –1000 kPa. For temp range 0-40° C.

Input, Output and Logging
Input: 5-15V DC at 20mA
Output: 150 to 550mV, non-linear, for 0 to –1000 kPa
Compatible with most data-loggers

Dimensions
Length 215 mm, 40mm diameter. Standard cable length 5m.

Environmental
Operates over –10 to +700C without damage. Buriable up to 5m deep in soil or water. Readings in soil acidity and water flow.

Cablibration
Calibraton normally stable for 2 years. Unsuitable for use in saline soils. User can check calibration but unit must be returned to Delta-T if recalibration is required.

Comment
Unique sensor for measurement of matric potential. Zero maintenance, Best accuracy in dry soils. Can be left installed in frozen soils.
